abstract Solar cells and methods for manufacturing solar cells are disclosed. An example solar cell (10) may include an electron conductor layer (14), with a quantum dot layer (16) electrically coupled to the electron conductor layer. A hole conductor layer (18) may be electrically coupled to the quantum dot layer. An interface layer (22) may be disposed along an interface between the hole conductor layer and the quantum dot layer. The interface layer may provide an energy barrier that discourages electrons from moving from the quantum dot layer to the hole conductor layer, while allowing electrons to more easily move from the hole conductor layer to the quantum dot layer.
