Provided is a solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization which is: high in both hydrogen activity and polymerization activity; capable of efficiently obtaining, with a smaller quantity of hydrogen, a polymer with both a high MFR value and high stereoregularity; high in copolymerization activity and exhibits satisfactory copolymerization characteristics such as block ratio; and environmentally friendly. The solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization is characterized by being formed when a magnesium compound (a), an internal electron donor represented by general formula R 1 n 2 C(COOCH 3 ) 2 (b) (In the formula, R 1 is selected from either a branched alkyl group having 3-20 carbon atoms, a halogen atom, a linear or branched halogen-substituted alkyl group having 2-20 carbon atoms, a linear alkyl group having 1-20 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group having 3-20 carbon atoms, a vinyl group, or an allyl group), and a tetravalent halogen compound (c) are brought into contact in an inert organic solvent. |
