abstract | Provided are: a catalyst composition for effectively obtaining a high molecular weight addition copolymer of a norbornene compound having a polar group; a method for producing a high molecular weight addition copolymer of a norbornene compound using the catalyst composition; the copolymer; and a film using the copolymer. The catalyst composition comprises a main catalyst (A) and a cocatalyst (B) to be used in a copolymerization of norbornene having a polar group, wherein the main catalyst (A) is a complex represented by the general formula (1) ML n K1 x K2 y K3 z …(1) (In the formula: M is a transition metal selected from a Group 8 element, Group 9 element, and Group 10 element of the periodic table; L is a cyclopentadienyl ligand containing a cyclopentadiene ring; K1, K2, and K3 are negative ligands or neutral ligands different from each other; n is an integer of 0 to 2; and x, y, and z are integers including 0, the sum thereof being 1 to 7.), and the cocatalyst (B) is an ionic compound (a) capable of forming a cationic transition metal compound by reaction with the main catalyst (A). |
