abstract The invention relates to a method that consists of completely eliminating oxygen from a wine bottle once the bottle has been opened and the wine partially consumed. The oxygen is eliminated through the combustion of a combustible product inserted into the bottle, such that after the oxygen in said bottle is completely consumed, the combustible product stops burning owing to a lack of oxygen, indicating that the latter has been completely eliminated from the bottle; the product is extracted and the bottle is hermetically sealed so that the remaining wine preserves the organoleptic properties thereof for a certain period of time. The combustible product can be inserted into the bottle by means of a cup (5-5') on the free end of a telescopic arm (4) or a chain (9) connected to a cork (2) for hermetically sealing the bottle (1).
