abstract Provided is a production method for ß-SiAlON represented by general formula Si6-zAlzOzN8-z (0 2+ in a solid solution as the luminescent centre. The disclosed ß-SiAlON production method has: a first heating step, where a raw material mixture powder that contains Si, Al and Eu is baked in a nitrogen atmosphere; a second heating step, where the fired product that is acquired is heat treated in a noble gas atmosphere or a vacuum; and an acid treatment step. The first heating step and the second heating step occur in the same furnace.
