abstract | Disclosed is a stereoscopic image recognition device which excels in terms of brightness, flicker, and cross-talk when the viewer's head is tilted away from front, and which suppresses crosstalk during observation from a diagonal direction. The disclosed stereoscopic image recognition device includes a liquid crystal display device provided with a liquid crystal cell and a polarizing plate on each side of said liquid crystal cell, and a time-division image display blocker provided with a polarizing element, a liquid crystal inclusion body, and a λ/4 plate (B). A λ/4 plate (A) is arranged on side facing the viewer of the polarizing element of the display-side polarizing plate of the liquid crystal display device, and an inclusion body and a λ/4 plate (B) are arranged on the side of the polarizing element of the time-division image display blocker facing the aforementioned liquid crystal display device. The λ/4 plate (A) and the λ/4 plate (B) comprise a transparent support body, an oriented film, and an optically anisotropic layer which includes a discotic liquid crystal compound, and in said optically anisotropic layer, said discotic liquid crystal compound is oriented essentially perpendicularly to the surface of the aforementioned optically anisotropic layer. In the liquid crystal display device, the polarizing element of the display-side polarizing plate, the transparent support body of the λ/4 plate (A), the oriented film of the λ/4 plate (A), and the optically anisotropic layer of the λ/4 plate (A) are arranged in that order towards the viewer; or, said elements are arranged in the order of the polarizing element of the display-side polarizing plate, the optically anisotropic layer of the λ/4 plate (A), the oriented film of the λ/4 plate (A), and the transparent support body of the λ/4 plate (A). |
