abstract | A redox fuel cell comprising: an anode and a cathode assembly, the anode and the cathode assembly separated by an ion selective polymer electrolyte membrane; means for supplying a fuel to the anode region of the cell; means for supplying an oxidant to the cathode assembly; means for providing an electrical circuit between respective anodes and cathodes of the cell and; a catholyte solution comprising at least one catholyte component, the catholyte solution comprising a redox mediator couple; the cathode assembly comprising a catholyte inlet channel and one or more flow channels in fluid communication with the catholyte inlet channel, the flow channels being defined by flow channel walls comprising at least one porous cathode region, at least one of the flow channels being non-aligned with the catholyte inlet channel, wherein one or more of the flow channels are closed at one end, and wherein the at least one cathode region is provided along substantially the entirety of the walls defining the flow channels. |
