abstract The present invention relates to a polymer film and a barrier film for packaging purposes, and to a polymer and a polymer composition that can be used therein. The polymer is a semi-crystalline polyester comprising repeat units derivable from an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and a short chain diol and 15 - 50 wt.%, relative to the total weight of the semi-crystalline polyester, of residual units of a dimer fatty acid derivative. The invention also relates to a process for making the barrier film, wherein a barrier layer is deposited on a polymer film according to the invention and a layer of the polymer or the polymer composition according to the invention is extruded on the other side of the barrier layer, or layers of the polymer or the polymer composition according to the invention are extruded on both sides of a barrier layer.
