Honeycomb structure |
abstract |
A honeycomb structure which can be obtained at reduced manufacturing cost. A honeycomb structure comprises: a ceramic block formed by binding together honeycomb fired bodies with adhesive material layers provided therebetween, the honeycomb fired bodies having a large numbers of cells which extend in the longitudinal direction and are arranged side by side with cell walls provided therebetween; and a seal material layer formed on the outer peripheral surface of the ceramic block. The ceramic block includes: an assembly of rectangular cross-sectioned units, the rectangular cross-sectioned units being bound together while adhesive material layers are provided therebetween and having a rectangular shape in a cross-section taken perpendicularly to the longitudinal direction; and triangular cross-sectioned units which have a triangular shape in a cross-section taken perpendicularly to the longitudinal direction and which have outer walls formed on the outer peripheries thereof. Recesses and protrusions are formed in a stepped shape on the outer peripheral surfaces of the assembly of rectangular cross-sectioned units. The triangular cross-sectioned units are fitted in the recesses with adhesive material layers therebetween. The thickness of the seal material layer is partially changed. |
