The present invention relates generally to buffered ionic liquids that are very useful for dimerization of olefins, such as isopropene, wherein the buffer is a phosphine or a bismuthine or an arsine or an amine in the presence of a nickel organometailic catalyst. The buffer can be selected from the group consisting of aryl and phenyl compounds of Bi, P, N, As, and Sb, wherein the buffer can contribute to dimer selectivity. |
