Disclosed is a method for producing a phosphate compound that capable of stably and effectively producing a phosphate compound with superior characteristics and reliability. A first compound having a composition M x P y O z (wherein M is at least one species of atom selected from Fe, Mn, Co and Ni, and the valence number N 1 of M is +2≤N 1 ≤+4 and 0.8≤x/y≤1.2) and a second compound containing at least one species of atom A selected from Li, Na and K are blended such that the atomic ratio of A to M to P (A:M:P) is a:b:1 (wherein 0<a<2 and 0.8<b<1.2). After pulverization while mixing the blend of the first compound and the second compound, the mixture is heated in an inert gas or a reducing gas, and a phosphate compound having a composition represented by A a M b PO c (wherein, the valence number for M is equal to or lower than N 1 , and c depends on the values for a and b and the valence number for M) is produced. |
