The invention provides a process for preparing disilanes of the general formula (1) R a Si 2 C1 6-a (1), in which mixtures comprising the disilanes of the general formula (2) R b Si 2 C1 6-b (2), where R is an alkyl radical having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, a is 1, 2 or 3 and b is 4, 5 or 6, are reacted with hydrogen halide in the presence of an aluminum oxide catalyst which contains 1 to 10 parts by weight of aluminum chloride and 0 to 10 parts by weight of a metal oxide selected from magnesium oxide, copper oxide, zinc oxide and mixtures thereof per 100 parts by weight of aluminum oxide. |
