titleOfInvention Silicon carbide sintered body and sliding component using the same, and protective body
abstract Disclosed are a silicon carbide sintered body and a sliding component using the same, and a protective body which, even if fine cracks occur due to thermal shock or mechanical impact, are capable of inhibiting development of the cracks over prolonged use. The silicon carbide sintered body is configured mainly from silicon carbide particles and has a relative density of 95% or greater. On an observation surface of the silicon carbide sintered body, coarse-grain silicon carbide particles (1b) of surface area 170μm 2 or greater make up between 6% and 15% of the surface area, inclusively. The silicon carbide sintered body has excellent mechanical properties such as strength and rigidity, and even when fine cracks occur due to thermal shock or mechanical impact, the coarse-grain silicon carbide particles (1b) are capable of inhibiting development of the cracks.
