abstract The invention relates to a method for identifying an object, wherein said object has a security element, which contains one or more inorganic luminescent pigments, wherein the method comprises the steps of producing an emission spectrum of the luminescent pigment and comparing the obtained emission spectrum with the spectrum specified for the security element. The invention further relates to a security element, by means of which it is possible to determine the authenticity of a product in a simple manner.
