abstract Disclosed are: a radiation image sensor which has improved efficiency of conversion of light emission energy from a scintillator panel into an electrical signal, while having improved sharpness (MTF); and a method for manufacturing the radiation image sensor. Specifically disclosed is a radiation image sensor using a scintillator panel, which is characterized in that (1) the scintillator panel comprises a phosphor layer that is formed on at least one surface of a supporting body, and a protective layer is continuously formed on the surface of the phosphor layer, the entire lateral surface from the supporting body to the phosphor layer, and a part of the other surface of the supporting body where the phosphor layer is not arranged, and (2) when the width of the protective layer that is formed on an end portion of the supporting body surface where the phosphor layer is not formed is represented by D, the width of the supporting body is represented by LB, and the width of an effective light receiving area in a plurality of photoelectric conversion element arrays that are arranged on a circuit board so as to face the scintillator panel is represented by LP, the D, LB and LP satisfy a specific relational expression.
