abstract A compression and decompression method and apparatus of an Internet Protocol (IP) data packet are disclosed. The method includes that: a first device compresses the IP data in the IP data packet according to a first compression algorithm; the first device packages the compressed IP data into a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) data packet, and the header information of the PDCP data packet includes identification information, which is used for indicating the first compression algorithm or the IP data having been compressed. By the technical solutions of embodiments of the present invention, the compression of the IP data in the IP data packet is realized, and thus the empty port resources are saved in the transmission procedure.
