An instrument (12) for therapeutic treatment whereby living tissues (L1, L2) are joined together, which comprises: at least a pair of holding members (52, 54) for holding the living tissues to be treated; energy-output parts (92, 94), being provided in at least one of a pair of the holding members and connected to an energy source (14), for supplying energy to the living tissues that are held by a pair of the holding members and joining the living tissues together to thereby form a joint part (C); and joint-maintenance assisting parts (92a, 94a; 162a, 164a; 192a, 194a; 202, 204, 206; 180, 212a, 214a; 224, 234; 262; 372a, 386a; 396, 398) for coating the surface layer of the joint part of the living tissues with a material capable of preventing moisture penetration to thereby assist to maintain the joint part in the joined state. |
