abstract |
A process for producing a β-SiAlON fluorescent material is provided with which it is possible to improve luminescence intensity without adding any metallic element besides the elements constituting the β-SiAlON fluorescent material. The process is for producing a β-SiAlON fluorescent material which includes nitride or oxonitride crystals that contain an optically active element as a luminescence center. The process comprises: a burning step in which a mixture comprising a metal compound powder and a compound of an optically active element is heated; a high-temperature annealing step in which the burned object is cooled and then heated in a nitrogenous atmosphere; a rare-gas annealing step in which the product which has undergone the high-temperature annealing is heated in a rare-gas atmosphere; and a step in which the product which has undergone the rare-gas treatment is treated with an acid. |
