An electrochemical device which has excellent charge-discharge properties including low temperature properties and comprises a positive electrode and a negative electrode, wherein at least one of the positive electrode and the negative electrode comprises a current collector and an electrode layer, the electrode layer comprises an electrode active material and a binder, the component constituting the binder comprises a polymer having a constituent unit derived from a monomer having an amide group and a constituent unit derived from a (meth)acrylic acid, and the polymer (A) fulfils the following requirement (1) or (2): (1) the polymer (A) has a swelling rate of 120 to 600% when immersed in a solution (i) comprising ethylene carbonate, diethyl carbonate, ethyl methyl carbonate and lithium hexafluorophosphate at 80˚C for 24 hours; and (2) the polymer (A) has a swelling rate of 110 to 300% when immersed in a solution (ii) comprising propylene carbonate and methyl triethyl ammonium tetrafluoroborate at 80°C for 24 hours. |
