abstract A catheter assembly (5) includes a tubular member (16) having a first end (18) and a second end (20). A catheter (10) has a first end (12) and a second end (14). At least a portion of the catheter (10) is disposed within the tubular member (16). The first end (18) of the tubular member (16) is openable by axial movement of the catheter (10). A sealing engagement (34) is provided between the tubular member (16) and the catheter (10). A method provides for removing a protective cap (30), advancing the catheter (10) through the first cap (24) and into the body, and draining the fluid from the body using the catheter (10).
