abstract |
There is provided a method for the production of water which has a measured bacterial level of less than 1 cfu/100ml at 35°C which comprises passing water from a mains supply containing bacteria into a continuously circulating ring system and then adding to the water in the ring system an alkaline metal or alkaline earth metal salt of hypochlorous acid at a pH in the range of 5.0 to 7.0 and maintaining the supplied water containing bacteria in contact with HOCl for a sufficient time to reduce the bacterial level to less than 1 cfu/100ml at 35°C. The bacteria free water can be used for medical purposes, and is of particular use in the cleaning and rinsing of contaminated endoscopes. |
