abstract The presently disclosed subject matter provides compositions and methods for evaluating the potential of candidate polypeptides to associate with glyphosate with a higher binding affinity, higher binding specificity, or both or to have N-acetyltransferase activity with a higher catalytic rate when compared to a native glyphosate acetyltransferase (GLYAT) polypeptide through the provision and comparison of three- dimensional molecular structures of the candidate polypeptides and the GLYAT polypeptides provided herein. The methods further provide for the identification of polypeptides with these advantageous properties using the three-dimensional molecular structures of GLYAT polypeptides.
