abstract |
Disclosed is a process for producing an optical film that has a reduced contaminant content and contains a birefringent layer having high productivity and a refractive index distribution of nx>nz>ny, which comprises fewer steps. Specifically disclosed is a process for producing an optical film containing a birefringent layer, which is characterized by comprising: a coating film formation step of applying a birefringent layer-forming material comprising a non-liquid-crystalline material having a birefringence (?nxz) of 0.0007 or more as measured in the direction of thickness on a shrinkable film to form a coating film; and a birefringent layer formation step of causing the shrinkage of the coating film by causing the shrinkage of the shrinkable film to form a birefringent layer having a refractive index distribution of nx>nz>ny. |
