abstract An organic salt compound, which comprises a monomethine cyanine cation represented by general formula (I) and an azomethine complex anion represented by general formula (IV), having high sensitivity and good light resistance and being appropriate, in particular, for optical elements to be used optical recording materials for recording and reproducing information using laser beams. In general formula (I), X represents an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom or a selenium atom; R 1 and R 2 represent a C 1-20 alkyl group, a C 7-30 arylalkyl group, or the like; R 3 to R 6 represent a hydrogen atom, a C 1-20 alkyl group, or the like, provided that R 4 and R 5 may be bonded together to form a 6-membered ring; Y 1 and Y 2 represent a C 1-20 alkyl groups, or the like; and R 7 to R 10 represent a hydrogen atom, a C 1-20 alkyl group, or the like, provided that adjacent groups among R 7 to R 10 may be bonded together to form a 5- or 6-membered ring. In general formula (IV), M' represents Fe, Co, Ni, Cr, Mn, or the like; and R 11 to R 26 represent a hydrogen atom, a nitro group, -NRR' (wherein R and R' represent a C 1-4 alkyl group), or the like.
