Disclosed is a catalyst which is not corroded in acidic electrolytes or at higher voltages and has excellent durability and high oxygen-reducing capability. The catalyst is characterized by comprising a metal carbonitride oxide that contains at least one metal (referred as "metal M" or simply referred as "M", hereinafter) selected from the group consisting of silver, calcium, strontium, yttrium, ruthenium, lanthanum, praseodymium, neodymium, promethium, samarium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium and lutetium and titanium. |
