abstract |
The chemokine MCP-1 is closely associated with the development of the condition benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and determination of the concentration of MCP-1 in prostatic secretions or in urine after prostatic massage, or determination of the expression of the MCP-1 gene by determination of the concentration of MCP-1 -specific mRNA can be used to specifically diagnose BPH and distinguish it from other diseases or conditions affecting the prostate, such as prostatitis and prostatic carcinoma. In addition, MCP-1 can serve as a target for therapy of BPH and agents affecting the expression or activity of MCP-1 can serve as therapeutic agents for BPH. |
