Disclosed is a technique for improving the wear resistance of a sialon sintered body. Specifically disclosed is a sialon sintered body having a sialon phase that contains at least a β-sialon and a 12H-sialon among α-sialons, β-sialons and 12H-sialons. The sialon sintered body is characterized in that when the total content of the α-sialons, β-sialons and 12H-sialons is taken as the first sum of the sialons and the total content of the α-sialon and 12H-sialon is taken as the second sum of the sialons, the ratio of the second sum of the sialons relative to the first sum of the sialons is more than 20% but 55% or less, and the ratio of the 12H-sialon content relative to the first sum of the sialons is not less than 2% but not more than 55%. |
