abstract Disclosed is a deracemization reaction of a mandelic acid derivative utilizing a biocatalyst, which is a process for producing an optically active mandelic acid derivative. Specifically disclosed is a process for producing optically active mandelic acid or a derivative thereof by deracemizing racemic mandelic acid or a derivative thereof, which comprises allowing a transformed microorganism having a gene encoding mandelate oxidase, a gene encoding (R)-mandelate dehydrogenase and a gene encoding a coenzyme-regenerating enzyme introduced therein to act on racemic mandelic acid or a derivative thereof in the presence of a substrate for the coenzyme-regenerating enzyme and an oxidized coenzyme to deracemize the racemic mandelic acid or the derivative thereof.
