abstract |
A composite material or structure comprising a body of liquid and a hydrophobic coating material entirely surrounding the liquid. At least one property of the coating material changes on application of an external stimulus to the composite material or structure. Preferably the coating material is a polymeric material including functional groups (Z) which change in response to the external stimulus applied to the composite material or structure, thereby changing a property of the coating material. An example of the external stimulus is a change in pH of the environment in which the composite material or structure is located. |
