abstract Cancer determination apparatus (1) includes a Betti number calculation section (42), a comparison value calculation section (43), and a determination section (44). The Betti number calculation section (42) calculates the number of linked components constituting a set of one or more structural components formed by mutual linkage of the outlines of the line figures having closed outlines constituting the structural components that are contained in a binary image acquired by converting an image of tissue that is captured to binary form using a prescribed reference value as the boundary, and the number of spaces whose outline is defined by these structural components. The comparison value calculation section (43) calculates a comparison value indicating the extent of difference of this number of linked components and this number of spaces. The determination section (44) determines whether or not the image that was picked up contains an image of cancerous tissue, by comparing the comparison value with a prescribed reference value.
