abstract The present invention relates to a novel, simple and heterogeneous catalyst for the aryl ethylene oxide isomarization reactions. The present invention also provide an environmentally benign and economically superior process for the preparation of arylacetaldehydes from aryl ethyleneoxides by isomerization using glass wool as the catalyst, under vapor phase conditions. The preparation of 4-isobutyl-α-methyl phenyl acetaldehyde, a precursor to the API Ibuprofen is described.
