abstract The frequency of generation of elastic waves generated by cavitations is measured before and after water stress to a vascular plant is changed, using elastic wave receiving elements (11a, 11b, 11c, 11d) fixed on shafts (2 b1 , 2 b2 , 2 b3 , 2 b4 ). The rate of change in the frequency of generation is calculated from the elastic wave generation frequencies measured before and after the change in water stress. It is then determined whether embolisms in vascular tissues have reached a level at which recovery is not possible on the basis of the calculated rate of change. The watering period and the quantity of water for watering the vascular plant are determined using the determination result as an index.
