abstract | The present invention relates to topical drug compositions and methods for topical drug delivery which promote stability of a drug component and facilitate the penetration of the drug component into the skin of the host. Provided are topical drug compositions containing a suitable pharmaceutical agent agent, such as a vasoactive agent, and/or anti-inflammatory agents, NSAIDs, and/or non-NSAIDs. Also provided are methods for effectively utilizing the compositions for delivering said active agent to the host. These compositions and methods are useful for the transdermal drug delivery and treatment of a number of diseases and disorders in mammals. The invention also relates to methods for formulating or preparing the compositions of the present invention. To minimize irritation, the composition is water based, and preferably does not contain alcohol and/or alkyl hydroxybenzoate preservatives. |
