abstract The invention relates to a method of producing fatty acid ethyl esters comprising: a) reacting a substrate comprising triglycerides, diglycerides, monoglycerides, free fatty acids, or any combination thereof, with at least one immobilized lipolytic enzyme, to provide a reaction mixture wherein the enzyme loading is below 30% w/w with respect to the substrate, and the molar ratio of ethanol to fatty acid (EtOH:FA) is at least 3.0 equivalents; b) separating the immobilized lipolytic enzyme from the resulting reaction mixture; and c) subjecting the immobilized lipolytic enzyme to at least one further reaction directly without modifications.
