abstract Diatomaceous earth products are prepared by at least agglomerating at least one natural diatomaceous earth material with at least one of aluminate material, and subjecting agglomerated diatomaceous earth material to at least one heat treatment. In one embodiment, the diatomaceous earth product has a permeability ranging from about 0.2 darcy to about 3.0 darcy. In another embodiment, the diatomaceous earth product has a cristobalite content of less than about 1 % by weight. In a further embodiment, the diatomaceous earth product has a quartz content of less than about 0.5% by weight. Also disclosed are diatomaceous earth products, uses for diatomaceous earth products, and filter aid compositions comprising diatomaceous earth products.
