abstract A filter element is provided for the removal of contaminants from a fluid, the filter element comprising a polymeric blend comprising from 2% to 30% by wt. of a poly (chloroalkylene). Furthermore, a filter for the removal of contaminants from a fluid comprising: (i) a filter inlet (150, 151) for the ingress of unfiltered fluid into a chamber (105); (ii) a filter outlet (200) for the egress of filtered fluid from a chamber (106) for the receipt of filtered fluid; (iii) a filter element (101) located in the fluid flow path between the chamber for the receipt of unfiltered fluid and the chamber for the receipt of filtered fluid, the filter element comprising: (a) a first portion (107) having a first permeability to contaminants; (b) a second portion (108) having a second permeability greater than the first permeability, and (c) a valve (110) associated with the second portion and being operable according to a threshold pressure.
