abstract |
The invention relates to a catalyst for the production of polyethylene comprising a solid reaction product obtained by reaction of: (a) a hydrocarbon solution comprising (1) an organic oxygen containing magnesium compound and (2) an organic oxygen containing titanium compound and (b) a compound comprising a transition metal from Group IV or V of Mendeleev's Periodic System of Chemical Elements and containing at least two halogen atoms. Preferably the catalyst is applied during the polymerisation of ethylene to obtain ultra high molecular weight polyethylene and to obtain bimodal polyethylene. |
