titleOfInvention Xbp1(s) protein acting as an adipocyte differentiation marker having a facility to regulate differentiation into adipocytes, and an application therefor
abstract The present invention relates to adipocyte differentiation regulation.  More specifically it provides: a protein marker which comprises, as an active constituent, an XBP1(S) protein (X box-binding protein 1, spliced form) having the amino acid sequence of either sequence number 1 or sequence number 2 or sequence number 3, and which can be used as a marker for the amount of increase through differentiation of preadipocytes, adipocyte precursor cells or stem cells into adipocytes. Also, by way of applications for the XBP1(S) protein, the present invention provides: an adipocyte differentiation promoting agent and an adipocyte differentiation promoting method; an adipocyte differentiation inhibiting agent and an adipocyte differentiation inhibiting method; a substance for adipocyte-differentiation inhibiting-agent screening and a method for adipocyte-differentiation inhibiting-agent screening; and a method for reducing adverse reactions which induce rosiglitazone obesity. Additionally, the present invention provides a protein marker which comprises, as an active constituent, a XBP1(U) protein (X box-binding protein 1, unspliced form) having the amino acid sequence of either sequence number 4 or sequence number 5 or sequence number 6, and which can be used as a marker able to predict whether or not preadipocytes, adipocyte precursor cells or stem cells will increase through differentiation into adipocytes. When the XBP1(S) protein gene or XBP1(S) protein according to the present invention is used as a target gene or target protein, it can be expected to be useful in the development of agents for the prophylaxis and treatment of obesity having a characteristic whereby they either retard or block differentiation of adipocytes.
