abstract |
Disclosed are: a compound which has good light resistance and can be polymerized into a product having desired liquid crystallinity; a polymerizable liquid crystalline composition containing the compound; an optical element having good light resistance; and an optical information recording/reproduction device comprising the optical element. The compound is represented by the formula: CH2=CR1-COO-R2-Cy-Ph-R3-OCO-CR4=CH2. In the formula, each of R1 and R4 is preferably a hydrogen atom, and R3 is preferably an alkylene group which has 1 to 15 carbon atoms and has or does not have an oxygen atom at the terminal that binds to the ring group, and in which a part or all of the hydrogen atoms bound to the carbon atoms in the group may be substituted by fluorine atoms. Alternatively, R3 is preferably an alkylene group having an oxygen atom at the terminal that binds to the ring group. A diffraction grating (2) produced by using the liquid crystalline compound has good light resistance, and therefore can be used in an optical information recording/reproduction device that utilizes a blue laser as a light source (1) and is suitable for increasing a capacity. |
