Disclosed is a dye which can be used for an optical recording medium which has both excellent high-speed recording characteristics and excellent reproduction durability. The dye is obtained by coordinating an azo compound represented by the formula to a metal ion. (In the formula, ring A represents a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic aromatic ring containing a carbon atom and a nitrogen atom; X represents C-R1R2, an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom or N-R3; R1, R2 and R3 independently represent a hydrogen atom, a linear or branched alkyl group, an aralkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, a linear or branched alkenyl group, an aryl group or an acyl group expressed as -COR4; R4 represents a hydrocarbon group or a heterocyclic group, which may be substituted; and benzene ring B represents an optionally substituted benzene ring, and adjacent substituents of the benzene ring B may combine with each other to form a ring.) |
