abstract |
The present invention encompasses a method for providing a metal to a plant One aspect encompasses a method for increasing a marketable yield trait of a plant The method includes administering to the plant at least one compound that includes a chelate of a metal and a compound formed by a selection of chemical groups called 2-hydroxy-4(methylthιo)butanoιc acid (known as "HMTBA") Another aspect encompasses a method for providing a micronutπent to a plant The method includes coating a seed of the plant or soaking the seed in a solution with at least one compound of the same formula In addition, the method includes incubating the seed under conditions such that the seed germinates The amount of the compound coated on the seed or soaked into the seed provides the micronutnent to the plant as it grows in a manner that is non-toxic to the plant. |
