abstract Disclosed are a porous ceramic member having high porosity and large average pore diameter, a method for producing the porous ceramic member, and a filter. The porous ceramic member is obtained by joining crystal particles (11) of aluminum titanate, which contain Al, Ti and Mg and have an average particle diameter of not less than 25 μm, with an amorphous material (13) containing Si. The porous ceramic member has a porosity of not less than 35% and an average pore diameter of not less than 5 μm. The porous ceramic member has large pores and a sufficiently high porosity, and thus gas can sufficiently permeate therethrough when the porous ceramic member is used, for example, as a filter element.
