abstract Disclosed is a process for efficiently producing 3-amino-2-chloro-6-trifluoromethylpyridine. Specifically disclosed are: a process for producing 3-amino-2-chloro-6-trifluoromethylpyridine, which is characterized by reacting 2-chloro-6-trifluoromethylnicotinamide with a hydrochlorite in the presence of a solvent and a base; and a process for efficiently producing 2-chloro-6-trifluoromethylnicotinamide (which is a starting material for the production of 3-amino-2-chloro-6-trifluoromethylpyridine) from 2-chloro-6-trifluoromethylnicotinic acid or 2-hydroxy-6-trifluoromethylnicotinamide.
