abstract Disclosed is a fused ring compound exhibiting sufficient charge-transporting performance, while having excellent solubility in solvents. Specifically disclosed is a fused ring compound represented by general formula (1). (1) [In the formula (1), R11 and R12 each represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an alkylthio group, an alkylamino group, an alkoxycarbonyl group having 3 or more carbon atoms in the alkyl moiety, an optionally substituted aryl group, an optionally substituted monovalent heterocyclic group or a cyano group, and at least R11 or R12 is not a hydrogen atom; R13 and R14 each represents a monovalent group; m and n each represents an integer of 0-2; Y11, Y12, Y13 and Y14 each represents S, O, N, Se, Te or a specific divalent group containing a double bond; Y11 and Y12 are selected so that the group containing Y11 and Y12 becomes a five-membered ring; and Y13 and Y14 are selected so that the group containing Y13 and Y14 becomes a five-membered or six-membered ring.]
