[PROBLEMS] The purpose of this object is to provide a novel mycovirus capable of controlling rice Magnaporthea grisea and a novel means of controlling a plant disease. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] A novel mycovirus, which endogenously occurs in a definite Magnaporthea grisea strain, has four types of double-stranded RNAs of 2.8 to 3.6 kb and controls a phytopathogenic fungus, has been newly found out. Because of controlling a phytopathogenic fungus such as Magnaporthea grisea, this virus is applicable to the attenuation of a phytopathogenic fungus, control of a plant disease and so on. Moreover, this mycovirus can occur even outside the cells different from the conventional ones, which brings about another advantage that the virus can directly infect a host extracellularly without depending on hyphal fusion. |
