abstract Disclosed are: a novel process for producing a serine derivative or an optically active form thereof by a simple procedure; and an enzyme or the like for use in the process. Specifically, a given α-amino acid is reacted with a given aldehyde in the presence of protein (A) and/or (B) shown below and having an enzymatic activity, thereby producing a corresponding serine derivative: (A) a protein having the amino acid sequence depicted in SEQ ID NO:5; and (B) a protein which has an amino acid sequence having a mutation selected from the group consisting of substitution, deletion, insertion and addition of one or several amino acid residues in the amino acid sequence depicted in SEQ ID NO:5, and which has an activity of catalyzing the reaction for producing the serine derivative.
