Genetic markers for the prognosis of multiple sclerosis |
abstract |
The invention relates to a series of genes, the expression of which is altered in subjects with multiple sclerosis in relation to healthy subjects and in subjects with multiple sclerosis with a good prognosis in relation to subjects with multiple sclerosis with a poor prognosis. The invention is based on an initial set of genes that demonstrate the aforementioned differential expression, from which a subset of 13 genes and two clinical variables was validated, which can be used to predict the course of a patient with high reliability. The invention makes use of said expression values in order to provide methods for prognosticating the course of a patient diagnosed with multiple sclerosis on the basis of tables of conditioned probability between the expression levels of a pre-determined gene or group of genes and the probability values associated with the patient having a good or poor prognosis. |
