The present invention relates to a method for producing 2,2-dichlorocyclopropane carboxylic acid esters, wherein an α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid ester is reacted with chloroform in the presence of an aqueous alkali metal hydroxide solution and catalytically active quantities of an ammonium iodide of the formula R5 (CH3)3NI, wherein R5 denotes C2-C10-alkyl, C3-C8-cycloalkyl,C3-C8-cycloalkyl-C1-C4-alkyl, phenyl, tolyl, or benzyl. |
