abstract The present invention relates to microparticles of a metal or metal oxide having a silicon-containing organic group with reactivity on the surface thereof, and a method for producing the same. The microparticles of a metal or metal oxide has a silicon-containing organic group represented by general formula (A) fixed on the surface thereof by means of chemical bonding. In the method for producing the microparticles, a silicon-containing compound and an aqueous solution or aqueous dispersion of a metal salt are reacted under the conditions at a temperature of 300°C or greater under pressure of 10 MPa or greater.
