titleOfInvention | Surgical handpiece for endocanalicular laser dacryocystorhinostomy |
abstract | The surgical handpiece for endocanalicular dacryocystorhinostomy enables the surgeon to move' the optical fibre (3) leading the laser light from the laser light source (8) to the operation site in the direction towards the operation site in a stepwise manner each time the fibre end projecting out of the cannula (4) disposed at the end of the handpiece burns out due to high energy of the outgoing laser light. The surgeon initiates the motion without interrupting the execution of the operation by pushing the actuating knob (2) using only one hand. Thereby the shifting mechanism is activated designed to move the optical fibre for a specific and always the same step length. The shifting mechanism ensures that the optical fibre cannot be moved back in the direction towards the cannula. Irrigation with water of the fibre end and of the tissue is ensured by the surgical handpiece as well. |
